A social minitruck cruise combining scenic coastal driving to Terrigal Haven with informal dining and a shop visit, showcasing the custom automotive community's camaraderie

I joined the Central Coast minitruck cruise in winter 2004, an event that brought together enthusiasts from across the Australian custom truck scene for a day of driving modified trucks along one of the most scenic coastlines in NSW. This wasn't just another car meet - it was a celebration of camaraderie, craftsmanship, and the pure joy of driving the builds we'd spent months or years creating.

The Coastal Drive

The event kicked off with a convoy of slammed, customized minitrucks making their way along coastal roads to Terrigal Haven. Seeing these low-riding machines cruising in formation showed the dedication within the Australian minitruckin community. The route took advantage of the Central Coast's spectacular ocean views and winding coastal roads.

Piloting custom-built trucks through scenic terrain while the convoy attracted attention from locals and tourists created an impressive rolling display. For many of us, the cruise was the perfect opportunity to put our builds through their paces on real roads, testing custom suspension reliability and enjoying the fruits of our labor.

Terrigal Haven BBQ

Arriving at Terrigal Haven, we gathered for a casual BBQ lunch in the waterfront setting. The relaxed atmosphere let truck owners share stories, discuss builds, and admire each other's rides. From air-bagged suspension setups to custom paint jobs, the variety showcased incredible talent within the scene.

The informal gathering fostered genuine connections. Conversations covered everything from technical suspension geometry and bag pressure settings to paint techniques, fabrication tips, and future build plans. This exchange of knowledge helps newcomers learn from veterans and pushes the entire scene forward.

Chop Shop Visit

The cruise continued to the Chop Shop in West Gosford for an inside look at one of the Central Coast's premier custom shops. This stop provided insight into the fabrication and customization work that goes into these vehicles. Seeing projects in various stages of completion gave inspiration and appreciation for the skill involved in professional custom work.

The shop visit highlighted different aspects of minitruck building - suspension installation, body modifications, paint prep, and final assembly. For those newer to the scene, this behind-the-scenes access was invaluable for understanding the complexity required to build a show-quality custom truck.
